On Saturday, March 22, at 3 p.m. Michele Longo Eder, the author of Salt In Our Blood: The Memoir of a Fisherman’s Wife, will be signing her book at Westport Winery.
Salt In Our Blood recounts the moving story of a commercial fisherman’s wife, who is both a mother and a successful attorney on the Oregon coast. Set against the sudden loss at sea of the Eders’ oldest son, Ben, it is a tale of indescribable sadness but also one of resilience and courage – a stunning testament to one family’s strength and the memory of their remarkable son. In 2009, Salt in Our Blood received a first prize WILLA award in the category of creative non-fiction.
With her husband, Bob Eder, Michele is a co-owner of the F/ V Timmy Boy, a 60-foot steel vessel based out of Newport, Oregon. For more than 30 years, Michele has also practiced law along the Oregon coast, representing families, fishermen and their businesses. Currently, Michele is a member of the NOAA Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee and serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Oregon State University.
Michelle will also be the guest speaker on Sunday, March 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Westport Winery as part of the WEfish Organization Kick-off. This group is a non-profit organization that invites all members of the community to learn more on the effort to support commercial fishing through promotion, education, outreach and service. For more information email, or visit the WEfish Facebook page.
