Grays Harbor Symphony Orchestra members are preparing “An American Salute” concert for their annual spring performance, scheduled for Sunday evening, June 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Bishop Center on the Grays Harbor College campus.

Conducted by William Dyer, the community musicians will play some familiar tunes like Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes” and Copland’s “Hoedown.” Soprano Joy Dorsch will be featured in selections from Copland’s “Old American Songs.”

Two winners of the annual Grays Harbor Music Teachers Association concerto concert will also perform with the orchestra. Christina Shaffer, a music student of Connie Bevington and Dyer, will play the first movement of the Mozart Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major. Christina is a student at Grays Harbor College, who graduates in June and plans to become a music educator.

Soloist Analei Holt, also a soprano, will be singing the aria “Ebben! Ne andro lontana” from La Wally by Catalani. She is a voice student of Christine Hill and a junior at Aberdeen High School, qualifying for State Honor Choirs and Solo competitions twice.

The AHS orchestra will join the community group to perform “An American Rhapsody” by Meyer. Tickets for the concert are available online or by calling 360-538-4066.
