Alex Zerbe’s zany new show, “Gravity Catastrophe,” demonstrates basic concepts of physics through the art of juggling. In his wacky way, Zerbe helps kids understand gravity, friction, center of mass and gyroscopic stability. Children will also discover the six simple machines and see the lever, inclined plane and the wheel and axle in action. Hoquiam businesses are celebrating spring with the “First Thursdays” events continuing into 2014. The result of the event, now in its third year, has been increased foot traffic in downtown, a spike in sales for local businesses, join participating businesses every First Thursday from May through September and enjoy special deals, food, music and local art.
Each year Ocean Shores plays host to more than 50,000 guests for a fantastic and fabulous 4th of July celebration.
This year ACT will join the celebration with the Family Fourth Festival, a day of fun and games for the whole family to enjoy and participate in.
There will be games, food, vendors and entertainment for all.
Seaport Landing will host a day of family fun activities to celebrate America’s Independence, including a closing fireworks ceremony. Parking is available on site. A $5 donation per car is appreciated. Stick around and enjoy as the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain take guests out to view the fireworks display over the Chehalis River. Food and beverages on July 4th at Seaport Landing provided by Galway Bay Irish Pub of Ocean Shores.
The event schedule is as follows:
Noon: Gates open at Seaport Landing; cannon fire on the hour until the fireworks
3 p.m. to 6 p.m: walk-on tours of Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain
3 p.m. to 7 p.m: Music by local bands Gebular, Razors and Red Flags, and more
7 p.m. to 9 p.m: Rods on the River classic cars display
9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m: Fireworks Sail on Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.

The Coastal Interpretive Center is having a fundraising event called the “Seafood Shindig.” The event will feature local Quinault Tribal members preparing salmon in the traditional way. It will be served with coleslaw, garlic bread, water or pop, and dessert. Spaghetti will be offered as an alternative if someone would rather not have salmon. Galway Bay Pub is partnering to offer additional beverages for sale in an outside beer garden. We are selling tickets for three timeslots (2:00, 4:00, and 6:00). Tickets are available at Coastal Interpretive Center, Ocean Shores Visitor Center, The Dusty Trunk, Sipping Serendipity, Gordon’s Antiques, and in Aberdeen at GH Wine Sellars and the Visitors Center.
In addition to the dinner, we will be having a silent auction and raffle items during each time slot. We hope that lots of our locals see the benefit of keeping the Interpretive Center open for all to enjoy.
