Razor Clam Dig @ Washington Beaches
Mar 24 @ 10:15 am
Razor Clam Dig @ Washington Beaches | Washington | United States

State shellfish managers have approved a series of razor clam digs that starts Monday (March 16) on evening tides, then switches to morning tides Saturday (March 21) for four more days of digging.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the digs after marine toxin tests showed the clams are safe to eat.

This is the last chance for diggers to use their 2014–15 fishing licenses, which expire March 31, Ayres said. Beginning April 1, a 2015–16 fishing license will be required. A list of proposed upcoming digs is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Shorebird Festival @ Grays Harbor
May 1 all-day
Shorebird Festival @ Grays Harbor | Washington | United States

Each spring, hundreds of thousands of shorebirds stop to rest and feed in Grays Harbor estuary on their migration northward. Coming from as far south as Argentina, these Arctic-bound shorebirds are among the world’s greatest migrants. Some birds travel over 15,000 miles round trip! Tens of thousands of shorebirds feed on the open mudflats in the estuary. This concentration of birds offers people a great chance to view a number of shorebird species, and with luck, to see the birds fly together in beautiful formations while trying to escape the fastest creature on earth, the Peregrine Falcon.
