Grays Harbor College has received final approval for its third Bachelor of Applied Science degree, this one focused on K-8 Teacher Education. Courses will begin next Fall 2017, and students will be offered two pathways, K-8 Practicum or K-8 with Special Education.
An informational session about the Bachelor of Applied Science – Teacher Education (BAS-TE) degree is planned for Thursday, October 20, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Room 4135 of the Schermer Building.

The opening reception for the community’s annual Fall Gala art exhibit is slated for Friday, November 4, at the Spellman Library gallery on the Grays Harbor College campus in Aberdeen. The reception is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. This is the 24th annual Fall exhibit by the group of area artists.
Participating Harbor artists include Kathryn Cotnoir, Matthew Coyle, Julie Daniels, Ken Hunt, Kimmi Kerns, Brent Knott, Susan LaMadrid, Loni Lou LaQuill, Carrie L. Larson, Joan Lohr, Roy Lowry, Bev King Lufkin, Ivy M. Moyer, Douglas Orr, Brenda S. Peterson, Erik Sandgren, Ed Schroll, Barb Shillinger, Cara Beth Stevenson, Andrea Vingo, Ron Westman and Nathan Whorton.
The exhibit may also be viewed through December 9 during regular library hours, which are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursdays until 6 p.m., Fridays until 4:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Aberdeen Lions Club presents its 12th annual Toast the Harbor Food and Wine Festival.
Patrons will be able to taste wines from a dozen different wineries, beer from two breweries andspirits from a local distiller, plus shop at many different food and retail vendors. We will have bottles of your favorite wines available for purchase.
You will be able to browse and participate in the silent auction items throughout the open hours. We will have an abundance of wonderful items from our local businesses: fine jewelry, vacation stays, fishing charters, many unique gift baskets, fine art, home decor, gift certificates and so much more to choose from. This festival is dedicated to all things “razor clam.” The razor clam chowder restaurant contest is perhaps the most popular of the festival events. The judging is done by both the public and by professional chefs. The amateur razor clam chowder cook-off draws dozens of folks showing their “razor clam chowder” skills and is judged by professional chefs as well as 2016 amateur winners, in this case a team including Tyson and Annelise Diers from NewCastle and Nick and Katie Harmston. Visitors are likely to be able to taste some other restaurant seafood specialties as well. Wine and food pairing demonstrations was also very popular last year and likely to be very busy again. This year, there will be cooking demonstrations on the Main Stage to peak your interest. Tickets will be for sale to enjoy “Foods From Around the World” and wine during the demonstrations.
For those visiting that like shopping to go with their food tasting, nearly six dozen vendors will offer everything from jams and jelly to jewelry and lamps and more. Pirates providing treasures for adults and kids alike are always a hit with the visitors. Games for the kids at the festival always make for great memories.
