Veteran newsman Bill Lindstrom has pursued the truth about John Tornow for almost 3 decades. Among the several outcomes of his work is a new book, “John Tornow: Villain or Victim?” Lindstrom will present a slide show and discuss the book, the research and the Tornow legend at two Timberland libraries in February:

This meticulously researched history reads like a blend of mystery and tragedy as it reinterprets the life of an enigmatic man accused of heinous crimes. Lindstrom poured over century-old court documents, transcriptions, contemporary news articles and interviews to produce an authoritative and compassionate account. He brings the Tornow family’s life and times alive, describing the daily routines and personal sorrows that led up to multiple murders, a 19-month manhunt and an enduring Northwest legend.

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” @ 7th Street Theatre
Mar 7 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" @ 7th Street Theatre | Hoquiam | Washington | United States

Dick Van Dyke drives Chitty Chitty Bang Bang family fantasy flick to 7th Street Theatre.

A unique family-fantasy-adventure-musical-special effects-comedy movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the next film showing at the Silver Screen Classics Film Series.

The physical comedy talents of Dick Van Dyke, one of television’s most popular entertainers in the ‘60s and winner of three Emmy Awards, is on exuberant and constant display throughout this energetic film. He also sings and dances in the role of an eccentric inventor who creates a flying car that can and does drive itself and his family into some wild adventures.

In addition to Van Dyke’s talents, the film employs a lot of big special effects which may seem dated by today’s computer-generated standards, but thrilled audiences young and old more than 45 years ago.

The 1968 production also boasts an amazing writing pedigree: it is loosely based on a series of children’s books by James Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming. And the screenplay is the work of Roald Dahl, who created Willy Wonka and a large body of beloved children’s literature.

Tickets are $5 and available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen, and online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
