The Beach Babes Relay for Life Team of Willapa Bay is hosting a luminary tribute to those that have battled cancer. Luminaries can be purchased for $5 at The Blue Buoy, The Islander, and The Painted Pelican. Luminaries will be placed at 8:00 p.m. on the esplande (walkway) and the names of those being honored will be read at 9:00 p.m. at the derby booth. Luminaries can also be purchased the night of the event near the derby booth.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Today, with the support of thousands of volunteers like you, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. And we won’t stop until we finish the fight against cancer! Please join us!
Survivors can register on-line prior to the Relay by going to RelayForLifeofGraysHarbor.org, click on “join” and fill out the form. Or they can call 1-800-227-2345 and do it over the phone. This allows them to not stand in line at Relay to register and get their free t-shirt and 2015 survivor medal — they can just go right to the t-shirt line, tell us they are registered, and get them without waiting. We will have special reserved seating at the Start/Finish line for our Survivors, as well as snacks in the Survivor tent prior to the start of Relay.

A wildly entertaining creative collaboration between TV’s “Opie Taylor” and Obi- Wan’s creator, “Willow” is the next big-screen offering at the historic 7th Street Theatre in downtown Hoquiam, on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19, at 7:30 pm.
The 1988 movie starts with a story by “Star Wars” godfather George Lucas about a baby destined to defeat an evil queen, and the rag-tag band of unlikely (and frequently hilarious) heroes — dwarf, swordsman, sorceress and bumbling brownies — who take up her quest. The tale comes to life through the directorial vision of Ron Howard, “Opie” from the 1960s “Andy Griffith Show” and eventual Best Director and Best Picture Oscar winner for “A Beautiful Mind” in 2002.
Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley head the cast, with the dwarf Willow played by then 18-year-old Warwick Davis, who went on to appear in several “Harry Potter“ films as well as way too many “Leprechaun” horror flicks.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Tickets will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen and at online at brownpapertickets.com.

The temperature is cooling, leaves are changing colors, pumpkin spice is in the air and it’s time to celebrate fall!
